How we help dogs and cats everywhere
While we'll always focus on caring for animals at our three centres, helping animals beyond of our gates is an important part of our mission to be here for every dog and cat. Battersea was founded over 160 years ago, and in that time we've learnt a lot. Now, we want to do more for animals by sharing our knowledge, expertise and resources through our Academy programmes, our grants, and our animal partnerships.
The Battersea Academy is an international centre of excellence in animal welfare, that educates and empowers rescue centres to do the best for dogs and cats with the resources they have. With our wealth of knowledge and experience, we’re building a community of passionate animal welfare experts to transform the lives of dogs and cats no matter where they are in the world.Learn about Battersea Academy
We've partnered with Thai street dog charity Jai Dog Rescue for an ambitious five-year project, working to transform the lives of street dogs in central Thailand. There are an estimated 6 to 10 million stray or semi-roaming dogs in Thailand, many suffering a lifetime of hunger and neglect, and until now, resource to combat the issue has been scarce.Learn about the partnership
Our Grants and Programmes team offers strategic funding and support opportunities to organisations within the animal welfare sector, to advance change, through empowering local partners, so that more dogs and cats can have a better future.Learn about Battersea grants
The Animal Partnerships team also works with dogs and cats that we feel would be best suited to a working or rural home. Watch the videos below from our ‘What They Did Next’ series to learn about the unique lives of some of our former residents.Read about animal partnerships
